computer Engineering Building, Universitary Campus in Cantoblanco, Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.

This project, in the Campus of the Universidad Autonóma of Madrid, host the teaching of Computer Engineering, as well as the Professorship Department and the Research Institute attached to the center.
The architectural design has incorporated elements of architecture, such as interior lodges and patios, with testimonial character of a traditional architecture in buildings of entity and manifest singularity of area and zone environment, with which it is aimed to characterize and give the meaning of teaching building with the entity that a university teaching building must have and that is not seen as a mere container of functions, without the symbolic character that in our understanding must manifest the interpretation of it.
Modularly, it responds to a rigid orthogonal frame from a basic module of 90 x 90 in plant and develops as in function of its multiples and submultiples of the own module, on a symmetrical tracery with respect to the longitudinal axis according to an orientation East/South, in which the points of the vertices of the resulting rectangle are potentiated with the location of areas with a singular character, such as the auditorium and cafeteria; the formal aspect, the volumes of Deanery and Library locate a large closed cube which presides over the whole complex by its height in relation to the rest, providing a character of rotundity to the whole.
As a backdrop, a neutral and curved façade building that houses the departments, close the whole.
With the same conceptual criteria which has presided over the architectural design, materials have been treated in terms of systems, aspects and textures in their constructive use within the context of the building, seeking, in addition to its appearance, the use to which their functions are intended, responds to criteria of rationality for which they are intended, and incorporating materials such as carpentry, flooring and others more useful and characteristic which respond to an immediate use and criteria of economy and functionality.
For this purpose, a ceramic facing brick curtain wall 7 x 12 x 24 cm has been projected, with the bricks placed in its stretcher way (showing its longitudinal surface), and with its joint 1.2 – 2 cm width, full of cement to the level of the brick (furring), with thermal and acoustic isolation, coated with double hollow brick and thick partition bricks with their corresponding finished mortar coat for Classrooms, tiled with 15 x 15 cm pieces in the bathrooms and black-white gypsum to paint at the vertical facing and plastic paintings in the ceilings and false plaster ceiling.
This brickwork incorporates a horizontal treatment of sandstone bands from the area in golden color which top off the washes and lintels in the voids as reinforcement of the same and potentiation of the vertical voids, porticoes and lodges, and also travels the edge of the noggins along the façade in two bands incorporated to the overlap and with singular elements in distinct points as it figures in graphical documentation of the project.
The treatment of the interior space is singularized by porticoes defined by concrete pillars.
To summarize, we have sought in the architectural design, a building which had a symbolic character, which means as a Teaching Building within austere and traditional materials of the area.
